OER Forum Summary

OER Forum Summary

To top off a week of engaging discussions at the Open Education 2012 conference Oct 16th – 18th,  BCcampus hosted the OER Forum attended by senior staff and educators from B.C. post-secondary institutions.

The objectives of the forum were to develop a common understanding of what Open Educational Resources (OER) could mean for B.C., share ideas and experiences, and collectively build a vision of how to develop and use OER.  The meeting was an opportune time to discuss ways B.C. can take advantage of the promise of open educational resources and open textbooks given the exciting announcement by Minister John Yap at the Open Education 2012 conference.

The OER Forum was facilitated by Paul Stacey, Creative Commons and involved leaders and innovators in OER including  David Wiley, Brigham Young University; Cable Green, Creative Commons; Alan Davis, Kwantlen Polytechnic University; and Brian Lamb, Thompson Rivers University.  Giulia Forsythe, Brock University was the forum’s visual recorder and created wonderful notes for the session.
