Financial Empowerment is designed for a single-semester introduction to financial planning and decision-making, in order to provide first and second-year business students with the necessary financial literacy and skills needed to make sound financial decisions, assess financial risk, and achieve financial success. This textbook attempts to speak to the varied backgrounds, knowledge systems, and experiences of Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians by providing Indigenous and non-Indigenous perspectives on personal finance and financial planning using examples and information from the Canadian financial system, economy, and Elders.

Q: The text covers all areas and ideas of the subject appropriately and provides an effective index and/or glossary
Textbook covers all the important areas appropriately. It has covered all the concepts that are relevant for the subject. However, I feel that more elaboration is required in some areas. For instance, in concept of capital budgeting more content on its techniques should be covered like Net present value with practical example as it is one of the major technique of long term Investment planning. And in investing chapter, along with mutual funds and ETFs, more investment funds like hedge funds is suggested to be included. And some mini case studies are also suggested to be included in each chapter.

Q: Content is accurate, error-free and unbiased
Content is accurate but at some places updates are required. For e.g. in RRSP, Home buyer plan, the limit is updated to $35000.And certain other contribution limit in various other plans need to be updated. However content overall is error-free and it includes relevant tables and materials. However, nowadays people are keener to learn things through apps or calculator. So wherever possible, it must include financial calculator steps. For e.g it can be included in time value of money chapter. So it should be technologically updated

Q: Content is up-to-date, but not in a way that will quickly make the text obsolete within a short period of time. The text is written and/or arranged in such a way that necessary updates will be relatively easy and straightforward to implement
Yes, content is relevant and in short period of time its not considered obsolete. However, as discussed in previous point, in the long run, some updates are needed to be done like RRSP, TFSA, CPP limits. But text is written in such a way that it is not considered obsolete in short period of time and updates can be easily implemented.

a. The text is written is in clear language which is easily understandable and no technical terminology is used. However more practical examples should be included in certain chapters to make things clearer. For e.g., what is CPP contribution,? how much is OAS benefit? Some practical examples or cases in explaining whole life insurance, term life insurance. It will make the content clearer.

Yes, I recommend this book. Because it has covered all important areas with easy and understandable language. And content is explained logically covering all the relevant topics and concepts pertaining to the subject.
