Some of the most important documents used in the workplace are the technical drawings, diagrams, and schematics that specify how fabrication and construction tasks will be carried out, or describe the composition and assembly of equipment. One of the essential skills for anyone involved in a trade is the ability to correctly interpret drawings. If you are in a construction or fabrication industry, you will need to be able to examine a drawing, take information from it, and visualize the finished product. If you are in a service or maintenance industry, you will need to interpret exploded drawings in order to properly repair or assemble equipment. The following list of lines and competencies was generated with the goal of creating an entry-level trades training resource, while still offering the flexibility for lines to be used as stand-alone books. Line D – Organizational Skills. Q: The text covers all areas and ideas of the subject appropriately and provides an effective index and/or glossary

The textbook coverall content laid out on the introduction with formative assessments throughout.
Very clear of what is going to be covered in the textbook and a well organized index.

I found that the written content was well supported with pictures and illustrations of which all were accurate and error free. I recognized some drawings from other textbooks

Q: Content is up-to-date, but not in a way that will quickly make the text obsolete within a short period of time. The text is written and/or arranged in such a way that necessary updates will be relatively easy and straightforward to implement

In my opinion this text book has a lot of legacy drawing and drafting information within it. Depending on the target audience there may not be much value in that content. Most drawing and drafting is done via CAD type software in industry.
The textbook was well written and easy to implement with a class.

The tesxtbook was well written and easy to follow, any jargon used is defined by the author.
I didn’t find that there were any time that I lost clarity on what the author was trying to explain.

As new vocabulary was introduced into the textbook it was reused in a consistent manner.

Q: The text is easily and readily divisible into smaller reading sections that can be assigned at different points within the course (i.e., enormous blocks of text without subheadings should be avoided). The text should not be overly self-referential, and should be easily reorganized and realigned with various subunits of a course without presenting much disruption to the reader.

The text was broken down in to logical chapters and within the chapters the further granularity made the textbook very readable.
The breakdown of modules that fed into the formative assessments provided closure on each module.

The textbook starts with very basic concepts and builds out from that zone of proximal learning to more advances concept in a very logical and clear way.

I used an e Reader to read the text book, missing the color of the PDF version did effect the quality of the textbook. On the PC it’s at 5 out of 5

This text has no references to any culture, gender, ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, education, religion. It does not include insensitive or offensive language in these areas. The textbook is about objects and they for does not contain and content that about diversity and inclusiveness.

Q: Are there any other comments you would like to make about this book, for example, its appropriateness in a Canadian context or specific updates you think need to be made?

Yes I do recommend this book but, for the correct audience. My only issue with the book is that it spent a lot of time on manual drafting tools. In many industries these are not used anymore. I do understand the value in doing things manually to get a better understanding of the base concepts. For the programs that I teach I would probably skip those chapters.
